Hello,
I am a landscape artist, and my passion is to explore and paint the South Downs and corners of the Sussex countryside.
My new exhibition of oil paintings is nearly finished, ready for my Open House from 3 May for 9 days, throughout May. My inspiration continues to be the South Downs, capturing their rolling hills and big skies, their chalky paths, windswept trees and meadow flowers in my new works.
I have sought out views that sing 'South Downs' whether it is just a snippet, or a much fuller piece. Each work is a labour of love, as I apply many layers of colours and thousands of brush strokes to replicate natures mesh of leaves, flowers and grasses.
A small painting can take a week, and a larger one a month. It is a miracle for me, to see each scene slowly emerge from the blocks of bold colour and tangled mess of strokes I start with, until the detailed, jewel like, finished view finally appears.
My exhibition in May showcases the stunning area we live in, and is carefully curated to bring the joy of nature, in all its glory, across the seasons into a single place. This is a chance to immerse yourself in our ever-changing landscape, as the light, mood and colour, continually present new scenes, and perhaps take a piece of nature home with you too.
